News Funding agreed for mountainbike trails. As part of the Bespoke project to create a network of mountainbike trails around South Falkirk, funding has been agreed to build 2 trails in Kilbean Wood, part of Lionthorn Community Woodland. Dates for the work to commence will be available shortly.   Plans agreed for car park upgrade. Falkirk Council have concluded plans to upgrade the car park at the entrance to Fox Covert Wood on Lionthorn Road. The work will include planting to link the car park with the wood. Works should begin before the end of 2010. Archive Environmental Justice Fund award  is Falkirk wins Environmental Justice Fund award of £800K to improve environment and countryside access. Falkirk Council and Callendar Estate have been successful in obtaining funding to build new paths through woodland areas in South Falkirk. The scheme will include paths linking Lionthorn Woods to other local paths via the Cleuch Woodland. The scheme is scheduled to complete in Spring 2008. Lionthorn wins WIAT funding Lionthorn has become a priority project in Falkirk’s successful £330,000 Woodlands In and Around Town (WIAT) funding bid. The community involvement through LCWA was an important factor in the success of the bid. Funding of £117,000 has been secured for Lionthorn and will be focused on a new footpath linking Lionthorn Road with Shieldhill along with a woodland management plan aimed at converting the Lionthorn Woods from a commercial plantation to natural woodland with a wider mix of tree species. We expect contractors to make a start on these projects during 2006. There may be some disruption to access while work is taking place but every effort will be made to minimise this. Falkirk Environment Trust to Fund New Ponds Falkirk Environment Trust have agreed to fund the construction of 2 new ponds in Lionthorn Woods. The ponds will be designed to provide habitat for frogs and newts and will replace wetland areas nearby which have been lost to housing development. Construction of the ponds will take place during Summer 2006. LCWA Big Day raises over £500 for Strathcarron Hospice The LCWA Big Day in May 2010 raised over £500 for Strathcarron Hospice.
