Wildlife records
Over the next decade our
woodland management plan will
transform Lionthorn Woods from a
commercial plantation focused on
Sitka Spruce and Scots Pine to a
diverse woodland with a wide mix
of tree species providing
important habitat for wildlife.
Can you help us record the wildlife in Lionthorn Woods?
Have you ever spotted some wildlife in Lionthorn and wondered who would be interested to hear about it - well we are!
2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity.
To contribute to this we have decided to set up a record of wildlife sightings in the area. Wildlife includes animals, birds,
plants, insects, lichens and fungi.
This will allow us to :
- Help us to protect and enhance the wildlife in the Woods
- Increase interest in the woods
- Contribute to national research on wildlife
If you would like to help you might be interested in the 4 downloads below -
1) map with grid lines marked (we have simplified this so only 4 digit grid references are required) The grid ref of a
sighting is the number from the horizontal line of figures followed by the number from the vertical line of figures that
relates to the bottom left corner of the square in which the sighting was made. Example: the entrance to the Woods on
Lionthorn Road is grid ref 78.84.
